Making Gingerbread Men Cookies on the iPad and iPhone

No, don’t use your iPad as a serving tray or a plate for your cookies in the oven. This is more about having fun making ‘digital’ cookies on your iPad or iPhone. The application available through the iTunes app store is ‘Cookie Doodle‘.

With the app, you choose your dough, roll it out, choose the cookie cutter, bake and then decorate to make them ‘your’ creations. Your cookies can be saved as an image or sent out with an email right from your iPad and iPhone. One cookie doesn’t say what you want to say? You can create a plate of cookies to share, giving you more oportunities to show your Gingerbread decorating creative side. Grab your copy of Cookie Doodle for a bit of family fun too, there is no charge to make endless number of cookies after the initial 99 cents for the app.

Gingerbread Crafts and Activities with the whole family

Gingerbread Women, Men and Houses isn’t just cookie making. There are a lot of fun things the Gingerbread Fan Family can do together. There are many craft ideas online, a few even offer templates and project outlines so there is a lot less resource hunting having to be done. And, I will admit it, they usually cover up my lack of drawing ability with already laid out artwork. Whew!!

Two sites you might be interested in.

Crafts for Kids” offers a page of fun resources, free for you to use:

Also, a resource for finding craft bits is Etsy. Usually people think of this site as having only completed work created by others. This is a link as an example to Gingerbread bottle cap art bits. You get quite a few for just a couple dollars that will take hours for your family to use as everyone creates their own favorite art.

Limited Edition Gingerbread Man cookie cutter has a heart

I wish I had seen this before I did so many cookies last weekend. Instead of just an outline of a Gingerbread Man to cut cookies, these from Hammer Song cut a cute little guy that includes a little heart. What a way of saying Happy Holidays with Love!

The cutter is tin and makes a 2 inch tall, 1 1/2 inch wide little Ginberbread Man. If your not familier with Hammer Song cutters, they are hand crafted cutters designed by a couple in America. What I have loved using their cutters in the past is that the cookies look just a little different from what everyone else has so you give out unique cookies that people know you made without looking, er… homemade.

Fancy Flours is offering these cutters for sale along with instructions on how to make the perfect Gingerbread Man cookies using these cutters.

Family Gingerbread House Craft Magazine for the iPad

There is a service for small magazines called MagCloud that prints and ships single copies of magazines when ordered. This keeps the overhead for folks starting their own magazines down till it takes off.

MagCloud offers some of their magazines via their iPad Reader app (Free) at no charge. One that we noticed last night was a family craft magazine that included instructions for making a clay Gingerbread house. Fun for kids since they can just roll the clay back up if they make something they aren’t happy with. Most likely it will be the adults in the room that keeps playing with the clay to make the perfect little house.

If you don’t own an iPad, you can stil buy a copy of the holiday craft magazine.

If you have an iPad, download it via iTunes from here. After you install the free magazine reader app, just look for craft magazines and download the one in the screen shots below, at no charge. Fun!

Paper Source catalog with Gingerbread Men for Cards

From time to time, it’s fun to make my own holiday cards. Buying the cut out shapes, cutting my own, gluing everything together… it’s a nice relaxing time.

A catalog of card bits and pieces showed up in my mailbox yesterday from Paper Source with Gingerbread Men cut outs. Of course, they have all sorts of other shapes like trees, snow flakes, and ornaments. As well, felt shapes, Embossing Plates and even Gingerbread craft kits.

If your really gifted at the card making, the back cover mentions a Holiday Card Contest which might be fun to enter. If the catalog has yet to show at your house, you can always just go to their site: www.paper-source.com
